As an abstract artist I am always amazed at what becomes a painting at the end of the creative process. I usually have no preconceived concepts as to what I want the next painting to be. I just start painting and eventually I know what to do and keep going until I feel in my gut that it's where it needs to be. I enjoy trying out new techniques and am always looking to experiment with new and unusual implements such as kitchen utensils when doing impasto work.
To me the excitement of abstract painting is knowing that I started with a blank canvas, then it usually get to a point where it's just bad and needs to be corrected. Then it gets to the point where it's magical and becomes something amazing to me. I do not paint to impress. I paint because I truly enjoy what I create and am really thrilled that I can make something wonderful in such a short amount of time and that the options are endless.
I'm a self-taught artist that started painting in Feb of 2012. I have enjoyed drawing in the past, but no painting to speak of. I am a former United States Marine of 16 years and am currently a Software Engineer by day and abstract painter by night.
